First Arena Hosts Future Stars Camp
First Arena Hosts Future Stars Camp August 18, 2006 Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today that the First Arena will be the host for the Future Stars Camp beginning next week and culminating with an exhibition game on September 1st. The First Arena will be the scene of some intense hockey training next week. The Jackals hockey facility will host the Future Stars Camp, a 10-day training and conditioning hockey camp for 38 players and prospects, who will be attending NHL training camps in mid-September. Players taking part in the camp will be put through rigorous on-ice and off-ice training sessions; most on-ice sessions will run from 2 pm to 4 pm at the First Arena. The blue chip roster for the camp includes talented European prospects, many players from top NCAA Division I schools, and some familiar faces to UHL fans. Attending the training sessions will be former Mercyhurst star goaltender Andy Franck, who had a phenomenal rookie season with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL in 2005-06, plus UHL alumni Ryan Bennett, Donny Grover, Kris Tebbs and Mark Hurtubise. Coming over from Eastern Europe will be six Slovakian players who have all shined at the junior level, including several who competed for Team Slovakia in past World Junior Championships. For a full camp roster, see the bottom of this release. The event of the camp will be the final day, Friday September 1st, when the players will be showcased in a Future Stars Red-White Exhibition game. Face off is scheduled for 7:00 pm on the First Arena Rec Rink and tickets for the game will be $5 for general admission. "We are glad to be the training facility for some future NHL stars," said General Manager Robbie S. Nichols. "The roster of attending players is a very impressive and talented group. We will take advantage of our opportunity to scout the talent and there may be one or two future Jackals on the ice. This camp will be a great chance for fans the Twin Tier region to cure the summer hockey blues." Don't forget, the Jackals Professional Hockey Placement Camp on September 2nd and 3rd at the First Arena. More than 60 players have registered for the camp, which provides an opportunity to tryout for an invitation to the Jackals 2006 Training Camp. The camp is open to the public with games all day on Saturday, September 2nd, and then the consolation and championship games to be held on Sunday, September 3rd. Both days are open to the public. After completing their 6th season in franchise history in the UHL, the Jackals are gearing up for Season 7. Season tickets for the 2006-2007 UHL season are on sale now at the First Arena Box Office.
