Jackals Round Out Hockey Staff With Hiring of Trainer & Equipment Manager

Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today they have hired Jim Carey as their Equipment Manager and Brett Allen, ATC as their Head Athletic Trainer for the 2006-2007 hockey season.

Jim Carey joins the Jackals with more than 20 years of experience working in professional hockey. He becomes the fifth Equipment Manager in the Jackals seven-year history. During the past two seasons Carey worked as the Equipment Manager for the UHL's Flint Generals. Prior to that he has worked for the Trenton Titans (ECHL), Mississippi Seawolves (ECHL) and the St. John's Maple Leafs (AHL). During his time in the ECHL the Toronto, Ontario native was named to work the ECHL All-Star Game twice. He has also worked as an Assistant Equipment Manager for the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL), Newmarket Maple Leafs (AHL) and Team Canada during the 1991 Canada Cup.

"We are very excited to have Jim as our Equipment Manager," said General Manager Robbie S. Nichols. "He has extensive experience of working in hockey and I know that he will do very well here. Jim worked for me in Flint and is very good at his job."

Brett Allen joined the Jackals and becomes the 5th Head Athletic Trainer in the Jackals seven-year history. He began his athletic training career working in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization for their Triple-A team. After that season Allen moved to the San Francisco Giants organization, working for their Advanced Single-A affiliate, the San Jose Giants. Most recently the Gainesville, Florida native has worked for the Kansas City T-Bones of the Independent Northern League. He plans to continue working for Kansas City during the hockey off-season. Allen graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training. While he was in school, Brett was a pitcher for MTSU's Division I baseball team. In 4-years of pitching for the varsity squad, Allen helped the Blue Raiders win two Conference Championships.

"We are happy to bring Brett on board as our Athletic Trainer," said Nichols. "He has an impressive resume of working in professional baseball and I think he will be a real asset to our team in how he attends to the players and their injuries."

The Jackals will be appearing at Center Court of the Arnot Mall on Wednesday, October 11 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm for a Meet the Team autograph session. The full Jackals roster is scheduled to attend the promotion.

The Jackals open the 2006-07 UHL season with their home opener at the First Arena as they host the defending Colonial Cup Champion Kalamazoo Wings on Friday October 13th at 7:35 pm. They will also face off against the Wings on Sunday October 15th at 4:05 pm in Elmira.
